Sugaring or waxing....
Sugaring is the next hair removal trend you are going to be obsessed with. If you have not heard of sugaring before, it’s a method of removing unwanted hair in the natural direction of growth by applying a mixture of lemon juice, sugar, and water to the skin and then peeling it off together with the hair. Developed by ancient Egyptians who considered a hairless body synonymous with royalty, class and prosperity, sugaring has provided an effective cosmetic solution since the early ages.
- Sugaring technique extracts the hair in the direction of hair growth. This means less trauma on the hair, less chance of breakage and therefore minimising the chance of ingrown hairs.
- Sugaring is incredibly sanitary, it’s hypoallergenic and non comedogenic (it doesn’t block your pores).
- After a number of sugaring treatments, the hair follicle begins to deplete. The hair growth is more refined each time. Because sugaring can extract the shortest hair in the anagen phase it can lead to permanency.
- Sugar paste gets rid of unwanted body hair and at the same time exfoliates your skin gently. Exfoliation means getting rid of dead skin cells. Sugar paste, unlike wax, can’t stick to your live/active skin cells because active skin cells are wet. Therefore optimising the condition of your skin.
The benefits of sugaring over waxing:
It’s more hygienic, lasts longer, and can be less painful if done regularly. Sugaring doesn’t cause ingrown hairs (it can actually correct them)! In addition, sugaring is a natural exfoliating treatment for the skin and can lead to permanent reduction of hair growth. We don’t understand why anyone would want to wax, either.
Do not use any lotions or oils on the day of your appointment (sugar does not like oily skin). We love exfoliating to get rid of dead skin cells and recommend you exfoliate once a week. If this has not been your routine so far make sure to exfoliate at least once prior to your appointment, but NOT the day before or day of your appointment.
Duration of results: 3 - 4 weeks depending on individuals hair growth
Minimum length for first time sugaring: 5 – 8 mm

My advice before and after sugaring:
Before waxing: It is advisable to prepare your skin by having previously made (up to 24 hours before) a scrub with black soap. Don’t moisturize on the day of your appointment.
After waxing: Exfoliate with scrubs twice a week and hydrate the body to soften the skin and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. After waxing your armpits, I recommend you to avoid deodorants for a few days so as not to irritate the skin.
